Year of release – 2001
Continuing my adventures in Drum N’ Bass next in 2001 I kept with the theme of sampling from movie soundtracks. Â This track samples the theme tune from the movie ‘Escape From New York’ which was composed by another favorite composer of mine, John Carpenter.
Not only is John Carpenter a fantastic director but he also composes the movie scores for his own movies. Â I was always a big fan of this movie and the soundtrack so the themet tune was sampled here and mixed in with some beats and bass.

Year of release – 2001
Moving into 2001 one of the first tracks I released was a change of pace music wise. I had been very impressed by legendary House DJ/Producer Todd Terry’s recent foray into Drum N’Bass and decided to dabble in that area. Â The result of this was ‘Cause I Told Ya’.
Later that year due to the enormous success of the ‘Scream’ trilogy of movies (and due to being such a fan of the movies and of Marco Beltrami’s soundtracks) I decided to sample the theme tune and remix ‘Cause I Told Ya’ with the result being ‘Cause I Told Ya Scream’ 😀

Year of release – 2000
While the year 2000 was a busy year of production for Disco House, Funky House etc. there were also a few diversions into other styles.  I played around with a some more down tempo tracks around this time and the result of that are these two.  I have grouped them together here as there are a little out of the way to my usual styles over the years.  Must have been something in the air or the water or something like that if you get my drift 😉

Year of release – 2000
If had to pick a favorite out of all my past productions over the years this is probably it. A bit of everything went into this track !
The disco loop came from a record I picked up for 50 cent in a local market.  The scratching was sampled from an evening messing around on a new Technics SL-1210 I had  just picked up.  The beats were heavily influenced by Armand Van Helden who I believe had just released ‘Koochy’ at the time which I thought was ground breaking at the time.
In other words lots of background to this one.  I think that is the reason why its one of my favorites plus I still think it stands up well today, despite it being 11 years later 🙂

70’s Disco has always been a huge influence on me so it stands to reason that is reflected in a lot of my tracks. I never tire of going through old obscure Disco records to find a nice loop that can be cut up and messed around with. Back in 2000 while Chicago was known for Disco House music it was of the heavier kind with rock hard beats reflected in the music of legends like Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak etc.  Around this time in the U.K. producers like Full Intention were coming out with a lighter more up tempo sounding flavor of the genre reflected here in this track.

Year of release – 2000
One of the first tracks I ever produced was back in 1998 called ‘It Must Be Love’. The original is hard to find now but in 2000 I remixed it for professional club play on the large Martin Audio sound system we had at The Temple of Sound club in Limerick, Ireland.
Influences on this one are easy to pick out and I can see I was going through a huge Daft Punk, DJ Sneak, Glenn Underground vibe back then. The whole funky Chicago House sound was the basis for this track.
As for the ‘love’ part..well I’m afraid I can’t remember who she was !  I didn’t go ahead back then and mention her name but it was to be the start of naming tracks and remixes after girls over the years who made an impact on me one way or another 🙂
Year of release – 1999
When digging back through the archives of over 12 years of music production this one showed up from way back in 1999. Upbeat Disco house was my weapon of choice back then as a DJ and especially the type with a good pumping beat. Key influences here would have been Armand Van Helden, Olav Basoki & The Rhythm Masters. I played this one regularly in the Temple of Sound club where I was resident from 1999 – 2001 hence the mix here (“Da Temple Mix”).
I also got to feature this live across Ireland on 2FM radio when DJing as part of the 2FM Sessions Tour supporting Robbie Nelson & John Power.

I picked the wrong time to be getting all my music up on here…a little something called ‘end of year exams’ for University has kinda held things up a little bit. Looking forward to getting stuck in today though and getting everything up and running on the page. I made a little bit of progress though as the new domain name for this page is live now – www.fintanmoloney.net.
Today’s exam is ‘Imperative Programming 2’…so I’ve gotta get my Java on for that one 😀
Well this weekend has kicked off with the updating and setting up of this page, hopefully by the end of the weekend I should have all my content from across the net setup here. I have to gather up content from a variety of sources today, namely Soundcloud, YouTube and DivShare. Hopefully embedding the already hosted content on this page should be a straightforward task and thus enable me to focus on this page for all new material in the future. These things are never as easy as the seem though ! Might as well get to it lol 😀
